Maristow Camp

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1019784) describes an Iron Age hilltop enclosure on an east-to-west ridge west of Roborough Down. It is an oval enclosure running north to south, 96 metres long by 73 metres wide inside, defined by a rampart and an outer ditch. The rampart is 8 to 10 metres wide and 0.5 to 0.8 metres high, rising to 1.2 metres at the north end, and the outer ditch is 8 metres wide and 0.3 to 0.5 metres deep. A slight upcast bank on the north-west side is 4 metres wide and up to 0.2 metres high. It lies in the parish of Bickleigh, about 1.9 km south of Milton Combe.

One original entrance is on the west, with enlarged ramparts and a wider ditch to its north, and the south-east entrance has an inturned rampart end on its south side. A 19th-century carriage drive runs through the south-east entrance but leaves by a causeway over the rampart in the south-west corner, and it crosses the monument on a causeway 8 metres wide and 0.8 metres high. A later field boundary follows the east and south-west sides, and the outer ditch is faintly visible in the field outside it, 8 metres wide and up to 0.4 metres deep. Large oak pollards still growing on the ramparts show the enclosure was later taken into parkland.
