Double hut circle near Deadlake Foot

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1011569) describes a double stone hut circle attached to the east side of an enclosure on the edge of the River Tavy flood plain, at the foot of the Watern Oke hillslope. The hut is terraced into the hillside, with stone and earth banks round two rooms. The northern room is 4 metres across inside, with a wall 1.3 metres wide and 0.6 metres high. The southern room is 5 metres long by 4 metres wide, with a wall 0.9 metres wide and 0.3 metres high. It lies in the parish of Dartmoor Forest, about 1.5 km north-east of Ger Tor.

The enclosure is 51 metres north to south by 43 metres east to west. Its south side is a rubble bank 1.4 metres wide and up to 0.3 metres high, its west edge a lynchet 3 metres wide and 0.7 metres high, and its north edge a scarp at the foot of the hillslope. The east length survives only as a buried feature. A 4 metre length of boundary bank leading from the west corner, 2 metres wide and 0.7 metres high, has been cut off by the River Tavy. The flood plain south-east of the monument may hold further remains, but it is not scheduled because deep peat has hidden any earthworks.
