Walkhampton Parish Council

Walkhampton is a Dartmoor village and parish in West Devon, sitting on the western edge of the moor between Yelverton and Princetown. Its parish church, St Mary the Virgin, stands prominently on a ridge above the village and is a well known Dartmoor landmark. The village has its own memorial hall, used for community events and for full council meetings. Local government for Walkhampton is delivered jointly through Burrator Parish Council, a single parish council that also serves the neighbouring villages of Meavy, Sheepstor and Dousland. This shared arrangement is long standing and administrative rather than a merger of identity: Walkhampton keeps its own ward representation, with councillors elected specifically for the Walkhampton Village and Walkhampton-Dousland seats, alongside separate wards for Meavy and Dousland. Burrator Parish Council describes itself as the closest tier of local government to the community, representing residents' views and interests to bodies such as West Devon Borough Council and Devon County Council. It handles matters like planning consultations, local amenities, footpaths, allotments and community grants, and publishes agendas, minutes and a community newsletter, the Burrator Beacon.
