This scheduled monument preserves evidence of Bronze Age activity on Walkhampton Common, with the most visible features being two stone hut circles and a round cairn. The site also contains two lengths of reave, the characteristic stone field boundaries that crisscross Dartmoor, and a stone alignment. Together these features suggest a settled pastoral landscape, where people built homes and managed livestock over many centuries.
Walking across Walkhampton Common today, the upland moorland setting remains much as it would have been in prehistory. The stones are often subtle in the landscape, scattered and half-hidden by turf and heather. They reward close attention and offer a tangible link to the people who lived and worked on this part of the moor long before written records.
