Hut circle near Beardown Man

This stone hut circle sits on the eastern flank of Conies Down Tor as part of a dispersed Bronze Age settlement. The ruins represent domestic occupation from prehistory, when communities built small roundhouses from stone and timber across Dartmoor's upland slopes. The hut circle itself consists of stone foundations and rubble that would once have supported a circular dwelling.

Today the site rewards those who make the walk out to this moorland location. The settlement's scattered layout reflects how Bronze Age families organized themselves across the landscape, making use of sheltered spots and grazing land. Visiting requires navigating open moorland and finding the earthworks among grass and heather, but the effort connects you directly to thousands of years of human presence on Dartmoor.
