Steng-a-Tor

Grid ref: SX 5679 8798

Situated high above the West Okement Valley, Steng-a-Tor is a solitary, weathered granite outcrop with a remote and lonely feel. Its distinctive 'Camel' shape, formed by a humped outcrop and a tall stack, is visible from the north-east. The tor is surrounded by bog, and its south-west side has a sheep-maintained ledge that can be windswept. Historians suggest it may have been a boundary point in medieval perambulations.
