Sheepstor Parish Council

Sheepstor is a small village and civil parish on the western edge of Dartmoor, tucked beneath Sheeps Tor, the granite outcrop from which it takes its name. The parish is best known for Burrator Reservoir, built in the 1890s to supply drinking water to Plymouth, which sits within a landscape of oak woodland, open moor and grazing land at the heart of the parish. At the centre of the village stands the fifteenth-century Church of St Leonard, noted for its granite tombs, including the graves of the White Rajahs of Sarawak. Local government for Sheepstor is provided by Burrator Parish Council, a single grouped authority that also serves the neighbouring parishes of Meavy and Walkhampton, together with the settlement of Dousland. The council represents residents on planning, highways, community and environmental matters, and publishes agendas, minutes and newsletters for all three parishes on its website.
