A ring cairn is a circle of stones, with a hollow or flat middle, built as a ritual or burial monument. This one is a ring of close-set stones up to 0.8 m high round an area 8 m across, with a central hollow 3 m by 2.2 m and 0.15 m deep. The hollow may mark the cist (a stone-lined burial box) that Samuel Rowe recorded in 1848. It sits on a gentle west-facing slope overlooking the Meavy valley, and Historic England suggests it may be of the same age as the nearby unenclosed hut circle settlement, Hut circles between Hart Tor and Devil's Bridge.
