Platform cairn and cist 80m south east of Calveslake Tor

This scheduled monument consists of a platform cairn with an associated stone cist, dating to the Bronze Age. The cist would have served as a burial chamber, while the cairn itself represents a substantial communal or individual burial monument of the kind that still punctuates Dartmoor's high ground. Such structures are common across the moor and speak to patterns of settlement and ritual practice spanning several centuries.
Today the site sits in open moorland, accessible to walkers crossing this part of the moor. The landscape around it is characteristic of Dartmoor's granite uplands, with rough grass, heather and scattered stones.
