This pillow mound is one of several earthworks that made up Willings Walls Warren, a medieval rabbit warren on Dartmoor. Pillow mounds are low, elongated earthen structures built to provide habitat for rabbits, which were valuable for meat and fur. They were carefully maintained and managed as part of the warren landscape, evidence of how intensively Dartmoor was used and exploited in the medieval period.
Today the mound survives as an archaeological monument in the moorland, part of a wider pattern of warrens and earthworks visible across Dartmoor. It sits in the open landscape south-west of Ditsworthy Warren House, a reminder of the moor's layered history and the different ways communities have lived from the land.
