Lydford Tor

Devon

Lydford Tor rises above the village of Lydford on Dartmoor's western edge, a straightforward granite summit with good visibility across the surrounding moorland. The tor itself is modest in stature but its position gives it character, perched above the deep Lyd valley to the south and looking out towards the broader moor to the east and north.

The walk to Lydford Tor can be combined easily with exploration of the village and the dramatic gorge below. From higher ground the granite bones of the tor show clearly, and on clear days the views extend across open moorland towards Okehampton and beyond. It is a gentle introduction to Dartmoor's peaks, accessible and rewarding without significant scrambling.
