Leapra Cross

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1009180) describes the squared head, arms and a short length of the shaft of a medieval wayside cross of coarse granite with large feldspar crystals. It stands on top of a hedgebank on the west side of the gateway to Moor Gate Farm, about 23 metres south of the B3212 Moretonhampstead to Princetown road. It is not where it began: it was found elsewhere on the farm and put up here in 1937. It is listed Grade II and rests on a large granite slab 0.9 metres long. It lies in the parish of North Bovey, about 1.3 km north of Shapley Tor and 0.7 km south of Lettaford.

The visible height is 1.02 metres. The arms run roughly west to east and are 0.58 metres across. The south arm seems intact and projects 0.17 metres, while the north arm is damaged and projects only 0.07 metres. The head rises 0.22 metres above the arms and is 0.31 metres wide. The shaft is rectangular, about 0.38 by 0.32 metres. A fine relief cross with splayed arms and a splayed foot is carved on the north face, 0.82 metres high by 0.32 metres wide and raised 30 millimetres. A second, about 0.57 by 0.32 metres and raised 70 millimetres, is carved on the south face.
