The Langstone is a tall standing stone on Langstone Moor, near Merrivale on the west side of the moor. It stands 2.76 m high. It was once lying on the ground, and was set upright again in 1893 in its original socket.
It stands close to a stone row of very small stones, and a stone circle and several cairns lie nearby on Langstone Moor. Bullet holes in the stone are said to come from American troops using it for target practice during the Second World War.
Langstone and Longstone are an ordinary Dartmoor name for a long stone, and several stones carry it. This is not the Merrivale menhir, which is a separate stone 3.1 m tall beside Merrivale stone circle.
