Roos Tor hut circles and cairnfield

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1011379) describes four stone hut circles, a cairnfield, a lynchet and a group of trial pits on a gentle north-west-facing slope of Roos Tor, above the valley of the Colly Brook. It is part of a large unenclosed hut circle settlement. The huts are circular, built of rubble and earth, 3 to 5 metres across inside, with walls 0.2 to 0.7 metres high. It lies in the parish of Peter Tavy, about 0.8 km south-east of Wedlake Tor and 2.1 km north of Merrivale.

The cairnfield has seventeen cairns scattered along a slight terrace. Three are roughly round, 4 to 6 metres across and 0.7 to 1 metre high, and are probably burial monuments. Fourteen are oval, 3.3 to 9.5 metres long, 2 to 4.9 metres wide and 0.2 to 1 metre high, and most likely represent stone cleared for cultivation. The average height of all the mounds is 0.64 metres. Four trial pits, each a rectangular hollow 3 metres by 1.8 metres and 0.6 metres deep with a crescent-shaped bank up to 0.5 metres high just downslope, were dug by tinners searching for tin ore.
