Enclosed settlement, Beardown Hill

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1021178) describes an enclosed prehistoric settlement on a steep east-facing slope of Beardown Hill, above the valley of the West Dart River. It has at least seven hut circles, circular or oval banks round spaces of 6 to 12.9 square metres, with walls 0.4 to 0.7 metres high and two visible doorways. The agglomerated enclosure is at least five parts, rubble banks up to 0.75 metres high and 1.5 metres wide, in places lynchetted. Some huts lie inside the enclosures, some are linked to the walling and one abuts it, which confirms that the settlement grew over time into its present form. The Devonport Leat, its downslope bank and a small clapper bridge are excluded. It lies in the parish of Dartmoor Forest, about 0.7 km north-west of Littaford Tor and 2.5 km north of Two Bridges.
