Hut circles and fields east of Mel Tor

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1003301) describes two stone hut circles and their fields, part of the Dartmeet coaxial field system, east of Mel Tor. The southern hut is a circular terraced inside up to 7.5 metres across, in a massively built double-faced upright-stone wall up to 1.5 metres wide and 1.1 metres high, with an entrance to the south-east. The second hut lies to the north-west, a circular terraced platform up to 6.5 metres across with traces of a faint bank on the east side. It lies in the parish of Widecombe in the Moor, about 0.5 km south of Bel Tor and 1.1 km west of Poundsgate.

The huts are close to the edge of a field system of small irregular fields bounded by rubble walls up to 1 metre wide and 0.5 metres high, with occasional upright slabs. These join more extensive rectilinear field banks and lynchets. The scheduling does not include all the field boundaries nearby, because they have not been formally assessed.

Crossing used Mel Tor, which he also calls Mil Tor, as his proof that rock basins form naturally: he says the breaking down of the granite there shows it.
