East of Mel Tor lie the earthwork remains of Bronze Age settlement and land use, visible as clusters of hut circles and the field systems that surrounded them. Walking the site today, you trace the outlines of these ancient homes and the low stone walls that divided the land for cultivation and grazing. The remains are modest but persistent, softened by bracken and grass yet still readable in the terrain. They form part of the wider pattern of Bronze Age settlement that characterizes central Dartmoor, and speak to a period when the moor supported a thriving population.
