Winney's Down hut circle settlements

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1019071) describes two prehistoric settlements with hut circles, two simple enclosures, an agglomerated enclosure and a round cairn on the lower east-facing slope of Winney's Down. The scheduling falls into four areas. It lies in the parish of Dartmoor Forest, about 1.2 km south of Sittaford Tor and 3.2 km north-west of Postbridge.

The northern settlement has 20 hut circles in three clusters: six and a simple enclosure in the north, five and another enclosure in the middle, and nine and an agglomerated enclosure of at least two parts, 58 metres by 32 metres overall, in the south. A small cairn, 3.2 metres across and 0.6 metres high, sits on the west edge of that cluster. The southern settlement lies 170 metres south of the first and has three unenclosed huts on a small natural terrace on an otherwise very steep slope. The huts are banks round oval or circular spaces of 3.46 to 36.29 square metres, averaging 14, with walls 0.2 to 0.8 metres high, averaging 0.48. Eight have visible doorways, three have porches and one has an annex.
