Two pillow mounds near Ditsworthy Warren House

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1014467) describes two pillow mounds among earlier tin streamworking earthworks in the bottom of the Plym valley, part of Willings Walls Warren, which has at least 18 pillow mounds between Spanish Lake and Hentor Brook, covers about 113 hectares and existed by 1807. After 1815 it was worked from Ditsworthy until the 1930s. It lies in the parish of Shaugh Prior, about 0.7 km south-west of Eastern Tor and 2.7 km south-east of Sheepstor.

The northern mound is a flat-topped oblong of soil and stone 13.4 metres long, 5 metres wide and 1.2 metres high, and the southern is 12.3 metres long, 5 metres wide and 1.2 metres high. They sit on top of the alluvial tin streamworks, so they are clearly more recent than the last phase of tin working on this stretch of the Plym. The streamwork earthworks below and between the mounds are included in the scheduling.
