Hut circle near North Hessary Tor

This is a single stone hut circle, one of many that make up an unenclosed Bronze Age settlement on the open moorland south of North Hessary Tor. The hut sits on the settlement's north eastern edge, part of a landscape shaped by prehistoric communities who lived and worked on Dartmoor thousands of years ago. These circular stone foundations once supported timber-framed roundhouses, home to families who herded animals and farmed the moor.

Today the site is marked by a low stone circle visible among the heather and grass. Walking here, you are treading ground that connects directly to Dartmoor's deep past. The settlement sits within the wider pattern of Bronze Age occupation across the moor, evidence of sustained human activity in this exposed landscape long before the present moorland took its modern form.
