Hut circle settlement near White Hill

This scheduled monument is a hut circle settlement dating to the Bronze Age, when Dartmoor's higher ground was actively farmed and inhabited. The stone foundations of round dwellings are scattered across the moorland, evidence of a community that built and lived here thousands of years ago. Such settlements show how people adapted to life on the exposed uplands, working the land and raising stock.

Today the site sits in open moorland, north east of White Hill summit. The stone circles and rubble of collapsed walls remain largely as the Bronze Age inhabitants left them, now part of the landscape of heath, grass and granite. Walking here connects you to an ancient pattern of settlement that shaped Dartmoor and was eventually abandoned as climate and land use changed.
