Hut circle near Beardown Man

This is a prehistoric stone hut circle, one of several structures scattered across the eastern slope of Conies Down Tor. It lies about 530 metres south-west of Beardown Man, a standing stone that marks a significant point on the high moor. The hut circle is likely Bronze Age, built when farming communities occupied Dartmoor's uplands and created networks of small settlements across the landscape.

Today, the site survives as a low circular stone foundation, a common feature of the dispersed settlements found throughout Dartmoor. Visiting it means walking into open moorland and engaging with the archaeology of ancient land use. It is one of many hut circles on this slope, evidence of how people once organised themselves across this terrain.
