Six pillow mounds, Crockern Newtake

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1020881) describes six pillow mounds in Crockern Newtake, near Crockern, above the West Dart River. The scheduling falls into four areas. The northernmost stands alone, a round-topped rectangle of soil and stone 11.6 metres long, 4.9 metres wide and 1.6 metres high, with a ditch 2.8 metres wide and 0.6 metres deep on three sides, its edges coursed drystone walling and edge-set upright stones. The two central mounds lie end to end and are the largest: the eastern is 31.5 metres long, 4.5 metres wide and up to 1.7 metres high with its revetment showing in places, and the western is 55.5 metres long, 3.8 metres wide and 1.3 metres high, mostly a steep-sided earthwork, both with quarry ditches beside them. The other three are in a tight cluster, 8 to 12.3 metres long and 1.3 to 1.6 metres high, the two southernmost sharing a ditch, their edges roughly placed granite rocks with drystone walling between. It lies in the parish of Dartmoor Forest, about 0.5 km west of Crockern Tor and 0.7 km north of Two Bridges.

They are an outlying part of a warren on the west slopes of Longaford and Littaford Tors with at least 32 pillow mounds and a warreners' house, set up in 1895 by James Saltroun of Powder Mills and given up before 1914, though some mounds may belong to an earlier warren.
