Sampford Tor

Devon

Sampford Tor is a granite peak on the central moor, characteristic of Dartmoor's scattered high points. The tor itself is modest in scale, its weathered granite outcrop rising from the surrounding moorland. It sits in open country typical of the moor's high plateau, where the landscape rolls and shifts with weather and season.

The walk here is pure Dartmoor: open moorland paths and tussocky ground. The views extend across the moor in all directions, with other tors and ridges marking the horizon. Like many of Dartmoor's peaks, it rewards the walker who seeks it out quietly, offering a sense of place and perspective on the moor's granite geology and scale.
