Round cairn near Teignhead Farm

This round cairn sits on Long Ridge, a prominent line of high ground in the Teign valley landscape. Built during the Bronze Age, probably between 2000 and 1000 BC, it is one of many burial cairns scattered across Dartmoor's open moorland. The structure would originally have been a substantial stone mound, and may have held a burial chamber or cremation deposit at its heart.

Today, like many moorland cairns, it appears as a rounded earthwork and stone heap among the heather and rough grass. From the ridge, there are views across the surrounding moorland and down into the valleys. The site is a Scheduled Monument, reflecting its importance to understanding Bronze Age settlement and burial practice on Dartmoor.
