Round cairn near Grim's Grave

This scheduled monument is a round cairn from the Bronze Age, built as a burial mound and likely containing a stone cist or burial chamber within. It sits on open moorland 560 metres north of Grim's Grave, a landmark that would have been as significant to ancient communities then as it remains today. Such cairns dot Dartmoor's high ground, marking the presence of people who lived and died here thousands of years ago.

Visiting the site, you will find a low mound in the moorland landscape, part of a wider pattern of Bronze Age settlement and ritual activity across the moor. The cist inside, built from stone slabs, once held human remains and objects for the afterlife.
