North of Saddlesborough lie the remains of a Bronze Age settlement, where low stone circles mark the foundations of roundhouses and the outlines of pounds, or livestock enclosures, survive in the turf and heather. These features speak to a time when Dartmoor's high ground supported permanent communities who kept animals and worked the land.
Today the site is subtle and demands close attention to read the landscape. Scattered stone circles and walled enclosures emerge gradually as you walk the moorland, their age measured in thousands of years.
