Mine (dis)

Grid ref: SX 5335 6360

Mine (dis) sits among Dartmoor's weathered uplands, a tangible reminder of the industrial appetite that transformed patches of moorland in the 19th century. The disused workings—visible as shallow depressions, spoil heaps, and scattered stone—tell of the miners who extracted tin and copper from these exposed slopes, their labour driven by distant markets and the promise of ore beneath the peat.

Walking here, you move between two Dartmoors: the wild, apparently timeless moor and the scarred, worked landscape beneath your feet. The site sits quietly now, slowly being reclaimed by heather and grass, offering visitors a chance to read the moor's industrial past in its contours and stone.
