Deserted medieval settlement south of Meldon Quarry

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1002653) describes a deserted medieval settlement and a post-medieval farmstead on the lower northern slopes of Black Down. The scheduling falls in two areas. It lies in the parish of Okehampton Hamlets, about 1.8 km north-west of West Mill Tor and 3.2 km south of Okehampton.

The medieval settlement lies to the south and survives as up to four longhouses aligned north to south, with rubble walls up to 0.5 metres high. The longhouses range from 10.9 by 3.7 metres to 18.3 by 3.7 metres, and go with a number of enclosures and a hollow way. The farmstead to the north survives as two rectangular buildings with mortared walls up to 1.3 metres high, one with the remains of a chimney. They are read as a cottage and a barn in a small enclosure that may originally have been medieval, and the farmstead as sitting on the site of an earlier medieval dwelling.
