Lydford Parish Council

Lydford is a village on the western fringe of Dartmoor National Park, in West Devon, best known for Lydford Gorge, the deepest gorge in the South West, cared for by the National Trust, and the ruined medieval Lydford Castle, once used as a stannary prison and court for the Dartmoor tin-mining industry. The parish council is the elected first tier of local government for the village, working alongside West Devon Borough Council, Dartmoor National Park Authority and Devon Highways on matters such as planning consultation, footpaths, street lighting and community facilities. It meets monthly in public session at Nicholls Hall, the village hall, and is currently led by a Chair supported by a Vice-Chair and seven further councillors. Lydford's community life is closely tied to its historic core: the church of St Petrock, the castle earthworks, and the gorge.
