Moretonhampstead Parish Council

Moretonhampstead is one of the larger settlements on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, in the Teignbridge district, and is often described as the "Gateway to the Moor" thanks to its position on the main route from Exeter into the high moor. Its town centre retains a strong historic character, including the Grade I listed almshouses on Cross Street, built in 1637 and now cared for by the National Trust, along with a market square and a mix of Georgian and older buildings. Moretonhampstead Parish Council is the elected first tier of local government for the town, with an office at Green Hill, Fore Street, staffed on weekday mornings. It is responsible for local amenities including play areas, community grants, and open spaces, and acts as a consultee on planning applications alongside Teignbridge District Council, Devon County Council and the Dartmoor National Park Authority.
