This scheduled monument preserves evidence of long occupation on the moor. At its heart lies a settlement of stone hut circles, likely dating to the Bronze Age, when communities built their homes from the granite that still surrounds them. The irregular field systems suggest these early inhabitants were working the land, moving stones to mark boundaries and manage grazing.
Later, in post-medieval times, a farmstead was established on the same spot, showing how people returned to the same corners of Dartmoor across centuries. Today the site is a layered landscape of stone foundations and field walls, part of the wider pattern of settlement that marks the moor's inhabited history.
