King's Tor

King's Tor is an impressive granite pile standing at around 401 metres, readily visible from the B3357 road to the north. The tor holds two rock basins, a shallow one at the summit and a larger one on a rock to the west. The most distinctive feature is the west side of the summit, sculptured by weathering into unusual shapes with a prominent vertical parting running through it. The disused Princetown Railway, built to carry granite and tin from nearby quarries to Plymouth, loops around the north, west and south sides of the tor and is now popular with cyclists. From the summit, most of the other Walkham tors and the middle reach of the river valley are visible.
