Holne Parish Council

Holne is a small village and civil parish on the southeastern edge of Dartmoor, in the South Hams district of Devon, with a settled history going back to at least the 11th century. The village sits on the Two Moors Way long-distance path and is centred on the Church of St Mary the Virgin, built around 1300 and enlarged in the early 16th century, and the Church House Inn, a former late-16th-century church house that is now a Grade II listed pub. The novelist and clergyman Charles Kingsley, author of The Water-Babies, was born in Holne in 1819, and the church holds a memorial window to him. The village is also known for its community-owned shop, run as a village enterprise. With a population of only around 250, Holne remains a close-knit rural community, and Holne Parish Council, made up of elected councillors serving four-year terms, meets monthly to represent residents on local matters, working with South Hams District Council and Devon County Council.
