Foxhole Mine and the tinworks scattered across this moorland area south east of Arms Tor represent centuries of tin extraction on Dartmoor. The workings date from the medieval period onwards, when tin mining was central to the moor's economy and settlement patterns. Today the site is a complex of pits, channels and spoil heaps, the physical trace of generations of miners working the tin-bearing granite.
Walking across this landscape you can read the history in the ground itself: the hollows where ore was dug, the channels that directed water to process the tin, and the weathered mounds of waste rock. The site sits within the broader pattern of Dartmoor tinworks that shaped both the moor's character and its people. It remains a Scheduled Monument, protected for its archaeological importance.
