This scheduled monument preserves a complex palimpsest of human activity across Dartmoor's high moorland. Prehistoric settlements and burial cairns represent the earliest phase of land use, while the medieval farmstead and associated field system show how later communities organized their pastoral economy on the moor's difficult terrain.
Post-medieval tinworks overlay these earlier traces, evidence of the tin extraction that shaped much of Dartmoor's economy and landscape. Walking this site today reveals how successive generations adapted to and exploited the same stretch of moorland, leaving their marks in stone and earth.
