Ring cairn and round cairns on Wigford Down

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1002522) describes a ring cairn and four round cairns forming part of a round cairn cemetery on Wigford Down. The scheduling falls in four areas, and the site lies partly within the Wigford Down coaxial field system, overlooking the Plym valley. It lies in the parish of Meavy, about 2.2 km west of Legis Tor and 2.1 km north-east of Shaugh Prior.

The two western cairns are inside the field system. The southern is a ring cairn, a circular stone bank up to 3 metres wide and 0.5 metres high around a flat area up to 4 metres across. The northern is a round cairn, a circular mound 10 metres across and 0.6 metres high. The other three round cairns lie outside the field system, as circular mounds from 7.8 to 13 metres across and 0.5 to 1.1 metres high, and all three show signs of early partial digging or robbing. Other remains nearby, some scheduled and some not, are outside this scheduling.
