Coaxial fields, Hartland Tor

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1021336) describes a group of coaxial fields and settlements stretching from the west side of the East Dart River over the western and eastern slopes of Hartland Tor. The fields share one east-west axis, cut by transverse boundaries, stony banks up to 2 metres wide and 0.4 metres high. Two settlements lie within them. The western straddles the East Dart, a sub-rectangular enclosure bounded by a rubble bank up to 3 metres wide and 0.5 metres high, 150 metres east to west by 120 metres north to south inside, with at least three hut circles. It forms the west edge of the coaxial fields, which hold the second settlement, with at least four hut circles and five small enclosures. In the fields on the east side are traces of ridge and furrow running east to west on an east-facing slope. It lies in the parish of Dartmoor Forest, about 1.1 km south of Stannon Tor and 1.3 km north-west of Postbridge.
