Cairn south of Eylesbarrow Reave

This cairn sits adjacent to the Eylesbarrow Reave, a linear boundary that runs across the moor and dates to the Bronze Age. Such reaves divided the high ground into territory, and the cairn may mark a significant point along this ancient line. Built from granite boulders, the cairn would have been visible across the landscape when first raised, though centuries of weathering and moorland activity have softened its outline.

Today the cairn stands among heather and grass on open moorland, part of the dense scatter of prehistoric monuments that makes this corner of Dartmoor rich in archaeological evidence. Walking here, you move through a layered landscape where Bronze Age people once herded stock and established their claims to the high ground.
