Blowing house near Yealm Steps

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1002628) describes a blowing mill in the valley of the River Yealm, on the west bank at the foot of Penn Moor. It is a rectangular drystone building about 8.8 metres long by 3.1 metres wide inside, with walls 0.8 metres wide and up to 1.7 metres high and an entrance with door jambs on the north-east side. The wheel pit survives as a buried feature, and there are traces of a leat leading towards the west side. It lies in the parish of Cornwood.

At the south-west end inside, a recess 1.2 metres long and 0.9 metres wide is the site of the furnace, and a single block in front of it has four axle bearings cut into it. At least two mould stones are visible, and the inside is largely filled with fallen stone. The mill lies within an area of tin streamworking. Other remains nearby, some scheduled and some not, are outside this scheduling.
