Two stone hut circles 850m WSW of the confluence of Gallaven Brook and Walla Brook, 1045m north east of the Thirlstone

These two stone hut circles are scheduled remains of Bronze Age settlement on Dartmoor's high moorland. Built from stone foundations and originally topped with turf or thatch, they sit in the exposed country between two brooks in the northern part of the moor. Like many of Dartmoor's prehistoric dwellings, they reveal how people have lived and farmed here for over three thousand years.
Walking out to them today, you find the characteristic circular stone platforms and walls, stripped of their superstructure but still clear on the ground. This area of the moor would have supported small family groups with access to water, pasture and grazing. The sites are part of a wider pattern of ancient settlement that makes Dartmoor one of the richest Bronze Age landscapes in Britain.
