Two hut circles near Siward's or Nun's Cross

These two stone hut circles form part of an unenclosed Bronze Age settlement scattered across this stretch of Dartmoor. The huts are built from stone and sit within the wider pattern of prehistoric occupation that characterizes the moorland landscape. Such settlements suggest communities that managed livestock and cleared land for grazing and cultivation during the Bronze Age.
Today the site is marked on the ground by the low stone footings of the hut circles, visible against the open moorland west of Nun's Cross. Like many Dartmoor archaeological sites, these ruins offer a glimpse into how people lived and worked on the high moor thousands of years ago. The site is a scheduled monument, reflecting its archaeological importance to understanding Dartmoor's early history.
