Two enclosed hut circle settlements near Broad Hole

These two enclosed settlements of stone hut circles sit on Dartmoor's high ground south of Broad Hole. The hut circles are Bronze Age in origin, built when people lived and worked across the open moor in small family groups. The enclosing stone walls suggest these were defended or managed spaces, perhaps protecting livestock or marking territorial boundaries within the wider moorland community.
Today the sites remain as low stone foundations and rubble, visible to anyone walking the moor. They form part of the dense archaeology of this corner of Dartmoor, where Bronze Age settlement traces are common. Standing among them gives a sense of how the landscape was once actively inhabited and worked, far from any modern settlement.
