Two enclosed hut circle settlements near Broad Hole

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1008657) describes two enclosed hut circle settlements on an east-facing slope overlooking the River Cowsic. It lies in the parish of Dartmoor Forest, about 0.8 km west of Lydford Tor.

The western settlement is a small oval enclosure, 38 metres north-west to south-east by 25 metres inside, with a lyncheted rubble wall up to 1.5 metres wide and 0.4 metres high and a possible original entrance in the north-east side. A stone hut circle, 3 metres across inside with a wall 2 metres wide and up to 0.4 metres high, is built on a small knoll across the line of the northern wall.

The eastern settlement is an irregular enclosure divided into two compartments and holding four hut circles. Three are attached to the inner wall and the fourth stands free in the southern compartment, and the easternmost hut also lies across the line of the enclosure wall. The huts are 2.7 to 3.8 metres across inside, with walls 0.5 to 0.7 metres high. The enclosure is 75 metres north to south by 48 metres east to west inside, bounded by a rubble bank up to 2 metres wide and 0.6 metres high that forms a lynchet along the east side but survives mostly as a buried feature on the west. A cairn 4 metres across and up to 1 metre high marks its northern limit.
