The Huntsman and the Moon (song)
2025 · Honour Oak Records
The Huntsman and the Moon is a track on Seth Lakeman's album The Granite Way, released on 14 February 2025 on Honour Oak Records. Tavistock Today names it as one of the album's two Dartmoor songs.
It is about Old Crockern, described in reviews as the Huntsman Devil of Dartmoor, a spectral rider. At The Barrier says the song's protagonist is caught out by him, with a sense of moonlit terror on the moorside; Klof Magazine adds that Old Crockern is linked to the tor where tin miners met to settle disputes.
The tor and the Stannary parliament held there are covered by existing listings, along with the Old Crockern folklore entry.
