The Black Fox (song)

The Black Fox is a track on The Granite Way, Seth Lakeman's thirteenth solo album, released on 14 February 2025 on his own Honour Oak Records label. Tavistock Today and Great British Life both name it as one of the album's two Dartmoor songs.

Reviews describe it as drawing on the legend of the Black Fox of Dartmoor, believed to be a supernatural guardian of the moors. Although the song uses fox-hunting imagery of spurs, hounds and pursuit, one reviewer says the chase is to prevent the fox's slaughter, and the fox has become an emblem for anti-hunting feeling.

Observation: the Black Fox legend does not yet have a listing in this directory, and the only Dartmoor sourcing found for it is these reviews. The song is listed as a work, not as evidence for the legend.
