Stone hut circle 410m south-east of Roos Tor

This hut circle lies on open moorland south-east of Roos Tor, one of many such structures scattered across Dartmoor's high ground. Dating to the Bronze Age, it represents the domestic life of pastoral communities who used the moor for grazing and seasonal settlement. The circular stone foundation would once have supported a timber-framed roundhouse with a thatched roof, home to a family and their livestock.
Today the site is visible as a low circular bank and central depression in the turf. Walking here, you are treading ground that has known human presence for over three thousand years. The exposed position and moorland setting give a sense of the hardy life these ancient inhabitants lived, and the broader pattern of Bronze Age occupation across Dartmoor remains one of its most distinctive archaeological features.
