Hut circle near Yellowmeade Farm

This scheduled monument is a hut circle, the stone foundation of a dwelling dating to the Bronze Age. Such structures are found across Dartmoor where people settled and farmed on the moor hundreds of years before the Romans arrived in Britain. The site sits on open moorland south west of Yellowmeade Farm, where it remains as evidence of how the landscape was once more densely inhabited.

Visitors walking this part of the moor will find the low circular stone walls that once formed the outer wall of a small roundhouse. These humble remains tell of a way of life adapted to Dartmoor's high moorland, where communities built settlements, herded livestock, and worked the land in ways that still shape the landscape today.
