Hut circle near Leather Tor

This hut circle stands among the scattered remains of Bronze Age settlement on Dartmoor's high ground. The circular foundation, typical of roundhouses from the second millennium BC, sits in rough moorland terrain north-east of Leather Tor. Such structures once housed families who lived by herding and subsistence farming across the moor.

Today the site is marked by a low stony ring visible among heather and granite outcrops. It forms part of a wider landscape of prehistoric occupation on Dartmoor, where dozens of similar hut circles cluster on the better-drained slopes and plateaus. Walking here, you move through country little changed in its essential character since Bronze Age people built their homes in these upland places.
