- Period: Bronze Age (by type)
- Status: Four scheduled monuments (Historic England entries listed below)
- Cairns: Eight in these four entries
These round cairns are burial mounds of stone and earth on the slopes of Lee Moor, looking down on Spanish Lake and the Whitehill Yeo and Cholwichtown china clay pits. Several have a hollow in the middle, which suggests early digging or robbing.
The largest, in the group of four, was investigated by R. N. Worth in the late 19th century. He found stone-lined chambers and took them for huts; the modern reading is a large round cairn with later shelters built into it. The two-cairn monument has a cist, a stone-lined box for a burial, with its side and end slabs still in place.
Other monuments nearby, including the ring cairn and the hut circle settlement, are scheduled separately and have their own listings.
The four scheduled monuments
| Historic England entry | Grid reference | What survives |
|---|---|---|
| 1013423 | SX 58670 63516 | Four cairns on a south-south-west slope. The largest is 26 m by 24 m and 1.2 m high with several hollows in it; two small satellite cairns, 2.5 m across, lie beside it, and a fourth, 6 m across with a kerb of edge-set stones, lies 16.9 m to the north. |
| 1015756 | SX 58441 63751 | One cairn 5 m across and 0.4 m high, close to a reave and a standing stone, with a shallow hollow in the middle. |
| 1015753 | SX 58684 63695 | One cairn on Lee Moor, 4.7 m across and 0.8 m high. A circular pit 6 m to the west north west, of unknown date, is outside the scheduling. |
| 1018357 | SX 58561 64455 | Two cairns 3 m apart. The northern is 7 m across and 0.7 m high with a kerb; the southern is 6 m across and holds an off-centre cist 1.2 m by 0.6 m and 0.4 m deep. |
Grid references are from the Historic England entries. Historic England's own titles give a distance from the tor which does not always match its grid reference (one pillow mound is titled 210 m east of the tor but its grid reference puts it about 130 m west), so use the grid reference.
