Round cairn 400m south east of Higher White Tor

This round cairn stands on the high open ground south east of Higher White Tor, a surviving example of Bronze Age burial practice on Dartmoor. Such cairns were typically built over cremated remains and represent a period of intensive settlement and land use across the moor, roughly four thousand years ago.
Today the site is a low stone mound in the moorland, vulnerable to time and the weather. It sits within a wider scatter of prehistoric remains across this part of Dartmoor, telling the story of how our ancestors used and understood this landscape long before recorded history.
