This scheduled monument represents a prehistoric enclosed settlement, likely dating to the Bronze Age, when communities established semi-permanent settlements across Dartmoor's high ground. The site consists of earthwork remains, including the characteristic enclosure banks that would have defined and protected a small cluster of dwellings and activity areas. Such settlements offer insight into how people used the moor during the second millennium BC.
Today the site sits among typical high moorland, accessible to walkers exploring the landscape around Hartland Tor.
